The Overcomer Award
Every physician’s journey is different, but some paths are marked by extraordinary resilience.
The American Academy of General Practitioners created The Overcomer Award to honor those stories.
Celebrating Strength, Purpose, and the Heart of General Practice
Across our Academy, members come from many backgrounds.
Some knew from childhood that they were meant to serve as General Practice Physicians. Others began their careers in different specialties, only to discover their purpose through unexpected life events, professional roadblocks, or personal challenges.
No matter the path, one thing connects these physicians: they kept going.
Their passion for caring for patients pushed them forward, even when the road was hard. The Overcomer Award recognizes that spirit.
About the Award
Each year, the A.A.G.P. selects one member whose journey reflects:
- Dedication to General Practice

This award shines a light on the remarkable individuals whose stories remind us why this work matters.
